The time of year has come around again were Willowbrook welcomes another placement student. This years student is a Miss Kathryn Aston who has recently joined the NPD team. She is currently in her 2nd year of study for an undergraduate MSci in Food Science and Food Security at Queens University, Belfast.
Kathryn will be at Willowbrook for a period of 12 months in which she will cover an array of topics, gain hands on experience and complete comprehensive project work involving new product development from concept to finish including product launch.
Willowbrook enjoys giving students the opportunity to learn 1st hand what is involved in the specific area of New Product Development. The NPD staff work together with students to create a supportive and educational learning experience and help the individual gain excellent industry skills that can not be taught in the classroom, to accompany their academic study. The benefits of being involved in a larger scale company are the opportunity to observe and be actively involved in the whole process of from the field to the shelf.
Kathryns interest for cooking began in school were she found home economics easily her favourite subject and followed on this passion in securing a place at Queens University. Kathryn enjoys cooking in her pastime with a passion for Italian food. She wanted to gain experience in a large scale food manufacturer which has a strong eye for progression and an excellent innovation centre. In addition to her continuing to undertake her degree Kathryn has obtained CIEH level 3 in food supply and supervision for manufacturing and level 2 Award in healthier foods and special diets.
